DRESS CODE AND GUIDELINES

• Clothing that makes references to drugs, alcohol, lewd or violent behavior, or offensive language.
• Clothing that does not cover all undergarments or inadequately covers body parts and exposes too much skin.
• Clothing that is disruptive to the school environment and/or to the learning of other students may not be worn.
• Open back shoes and shoes that are elevated more than one inch are a tripping hazard and can cause imbalance or inability to maneuver quickly and safely. No flip-flops.
• ALL skirts, dresses, shorts must be at least a fingertip or longer along the edges of the entire garment.
• Shirts and tops must meet the lower garment (i.e., no exposed midriff area) and must cover all undergarments.
• Hats, baseball caps, bandanas, hoods, or similar head coverings are not to be worn in the buildings unless warranted by medical, safety, or religious reasons.
• Any other clothing, jewelry, spikes/chains, excessive make-up, or face paint, etc., that distracts from the educational environment and/or jeopardizes the health and safety of students may not be worn.

no left turns into the queue!
We have run into some challenges maintaining an efficient carline for our morning drop-off. This occurs most often when cars try to make left-hand turns into the queue for drop-off. We experience gridlock that extends past our exit lane and even to Baltimore Pike. Cars are unable to enter or exit the property when this happens. Turning left out of our exit lane onto E. Thomson Ave can cause delays; however, the main reason for the gridlock and congestion is making a left into the queue from E. Thomson Ave. Please help us maintain a safe and efficient carline by avoiding left-hand turns into the queue during morning drop-off (as well as dismissal) when there is a line that extends onto E. Thomson Ave. If you are turning onto E. Thomson Ave. from Baltimore Pike, please go down to Granite Terrace, Barker Rd., etc. and turn around so that you can make a right-hand turn into our queue, or please take a different route to get to Sabold. Thank you!
Any changes to how your student will be dismissed must be communicated to the main office before 3:00 pm. we can not ensure that we will receive messages about dismissal changes after 3:00.
please note: in order to ensure the safety and security of our children, parents are not permitted to walk students into the school. there will be ample staff stationed throughout the building to help students once they are inside. thank you for your understanding.
REPORTING ABSENCES
If you would like to report an absence via email, please send the email using this link: sabattendance
Additionally, there is a link to submit attendance on the school website. If you go to Sabold’s page, use your mouse to hover over “Parents” in the upper right-hand corner. Select “Attendance” from the dropdown list. In the middle of the page you will find a link to submit an email to sabattendance@ssdcougars.org An added bonus to the hotline email is that it will serve as written notice of your child’s absence. You will not need to send an additional note to school so that the absence will be marked as excused. We will retain the email as your absence note.
You can visit- https://www.ssdcougars.org/parents/attendance for more information.
Child care weather watch
Recess is an important (and fun!) time of the day. We do our best to get our students outside everyday for play and socialization. We use this chart as a resource to help make decisions about recess on days when necessary.
Please be sure your child is dressed for the weather.
Thank you!
HOME & SCHOOL information
Are you using home access center yet?
If you need to change a phone number or email, sign up for text alerts, check your child's attendance, or check report card grades, you will want to use the Home Access Center.
You can also check the Home Access Center for any outstanding unexcused absences. Remember, all absences require a written note. That can be done via email by emailing sabattendance@ssdcougars.org, or a hand-written note can be sent to the main office. A phone call to our attendance hotline still requires a written note for the absence to be excused (as required by law). An email works well for us, and hopefully that makes it easier on you.
You can visit the HAC website here: http://ssdcougars.org/HAC. You can submit a contact form to obtain login credentials. If you need assistance, email parentportal@ssdcougars.org

TITLE 1 PARENT LETTER
September 6, 2023
Dear Parent(s)/Legal Guardian(s):
Your child attends Sabold Elementary School which receives Federal Title I funds to assist students in meeting state achievement standards. Throughout the school year, we will be providing you with important information about this law and your child’s education. This letter lets you know about your right to request information about the qualifications of the teachers working with your child.
At Sabold Elementary School we are very proud of our teachers and feel they are ready for the coming school year and are prepared to give your child a high-quality education. All teachers at Sabold Elementary School are certified in the subjects that they currently teach and are considered highly qualified in the state of Pennsylvania. As a Title I school, we must meet federal regulations related to teacher qualifications as defined in ESEA. These regulations allow you to learn more about your child’s teachers’ training and credentials, such as the certificates and additional graduate degrees that a teacher currently holds. We are happy to meet with you to provide you with this information. Also, if your child receives paraprofessional assistance, you may also inquire about his or her qualifications, and we will meet with you to provide you with this information.
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which was signed into law in December 2015 and reauthorizes the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1956 (ESEA), includes additionally right to know requests. At any time, parents and legal guardians can request: (1) Information on policies regarding student participation in assessments; and (2) Information on required assessments, including subject, the time allotted, the purpose of the assessment and the format for disseminating results.
Our staff is committed to helping your child develop the academic knowledge and critical thinking he/she needs to succeed in school and beyond. That commitment includes making sure that all of our teachers and paraprofessionals meet applicable Pennsylvania state requirements. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mr. Anthony Simek, Principal (anthony.simek@ssdcougars.org) or Dr. Jeffrey Zweiback, Federal Programs Coordinator (Jeffrey.Zweiback@ssdcougars.org).
