PRIDE IN ALL THINGS
THE FOUR PILLARS
SPRINGFIELD SCHOOL DISTRICT STANDS ON FOUR PILLARS TO ACHIEVE AWARD-WINNING, NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED SUCCESS.
Academics, Athletics/Activities, Arts, Service. We believe with these four pillars, every student can find a place and purpose to establish a growth mindset in order to demonstrate our motto, Pride in All Things. Yet, excelling in one pillar is not the norm for most Springfield students. The mindset among teachers, coaches, and staff is to give students the best experiences they can for their school career, which often translates into being involved in as many extracurricular activities as the students would like.
Numerous studies have connected student participation with higher academic performance. Being part of the larger school community helps to give a student a sense of belonging and teaches time management and essential life skills, such as leadership, public speaking, and prioritization.
In the Springfield School District, we feel that students shouldn't have to choose only one area, or pillar, of interest. Students are encouraged to experience as many aspects of their school community as they can, and use this time to explore additional opportunities. Collaboration and support from teachers, faculty, and coaches, help students explore their interests and creates a broader perspective, which will help them in their life-long journey of learning.
Academic success is at the center of everything we do. Effective instruction is learner-centered, theoretically grounded, and contextually responsive to the individual differences of all learners. We strive to have our students become career and world ready and foster the principles of being life-long learners and critical thinkers.
Art is a universal language, a powerful tool for communicating ideas, expressing feelings, and recording history. Finding one’s voice requires courage. We draw out that voice through expressions of creativity available in a broad range of disciplines.
Wins are achieved through athletics by developing values and skills that help prepare students for the future. These positive outcomes continue far beyond graduation. Discipline. Respect. Friendship. Leadership. Resilience. Teamwork.
Participation in extracurricular activities enhances competencies beyond the scope of classroom learning, encouraging students to be part of the larger school community.
Service is working as part of a team with the shared mission of improving the well-being and circumstances of others on a larger scale. It is both a responsibility and a privilege. Serving others is one of the pillars upon which Springfield School District rests. It is an opportunity to learn, builds character, and generally makes the world a better place.
