When Joseph Sillo’s Region Six representative retired in November 2015, he saw this as a perfect opportunity to become a School Board member after years of interest. Mr. Sillo, who has lived in the Springfield community for the past 18 years, wants to highlight the wonderful things happening in the community, as well as help keep Springfield as one of the best places in Delaware County to raise a family.

Born and raised in South Philadelphia, Mr. Sillo attended Saint Joseph’s University. While he and his wife, Stephanie, were awaiting the birth of their first child, they were also looking for the perfect place to purchase a house. One of their must haves for their new home would be a fantastic school district, and they believed that Springfield was a great match.

Not only have each of Mr. Sillo’s two daughters received a fantastic education while students in the Springfield School District, they have also had memorable experiences while attending Scenic Hills Elementary School and E.T. Richardson Middle School. Due to the addition of the Springfield Literacy Center, Mr. Sillo’s oldest daughter, Victoria, was the first class to attend 5th grade at Scenic Hills, while his youngest daughter, Allie, was the last class to attend 1st grade there. His oldest daughter is currently a senior at Springfield High School, and his youngest is a freshman at The Episcopal Academy.

Mr. Sillo, who is a member of the Finance & Audit and Policy Committees, credits fellow School Board member, Dominic Bentivegna, as the person who introduced him to the idea of running for the School Board. The two worked together on the Board of the Springfield Swim Club and had many conversations about Dom’s experience with the School Board.

When he isn’t busy as the sole proprietor of his CPA practice, Mr. Sillo enjoys spending his free time attending his daughters’ performances and games. His oldest daughter is heavily involved in various theater and performance groups, as well as the Springfield High School Band. While his youngest daughter plays multiple sports, she especially enjoys playing basketball year round, and Mr. Sillo is a year round spectator! In his free time, Mr. Sillo also enjoys riding his motorcycle and eating at restaurants like Nick’s Roast Beef, the Springfield Diner and Outback Steakhouse.
