Involvement in the community has always been second nature to Bob Hornberger. A lifelong Delaware County resident, originally from Prospect Park, he has always had a connection to Springfield where his grandparents lived on Orchard Rd. When he and his family, wife Kortney and children Alex (graduated Haverford High School 2018), Mason (currently at ETR) and Charlotte (currently at ETR) moved to Springfield nine years ago, Bob almost immediately started to integrate himself with his neighbors and the community at large.

Bob has worked for Wawa Food Markets Inc. for 23 years where he started as a part-time associate on third shift at the Glenolden store on MacDade Blvd. His ambitions took the driver’s seat quickly and he worked his way to an Assistant General Manager position within his first year. Less than a year later, Bob had his first store as a General Manager in Chadds Ford, PA. Over the next eight years, Bob was moved to a total of six different stores as a General Manager to help build a stronger team and improve financial results. While an employee of Wawa, Bob was an integral part of the implementation of SAP at store level where he redesigned the training plan for store level execution. Since moving on from the stores, Bob has also designed and delivered the training program for the rollout of lottery across the six states and District of Columbia within the Wawa operating area. During this time, he also worked closely with each state’s lottery departments for the implementation of lottery in Wawa stores in a relatively new model that aligned to the values at Wawa. During his tenure with Wawa, he has always had a passion for improving processes for his team and the company. While working full-time, Bob earned his BS in Human Performance Management and BA in Business Management from Immaculata University.

Bob has been a member of the Springfield Parks Board in the 6th Ward for five years where he currently holds the position of Secretary. During this time, he has worked with residents to understand their desires for improvement within the parks as well as identify the replacement options for the playground equipment at Walsh Park.

For the past eight years, Bob has had the pleasure of coaching soccer both with SAA and the SFC. His passion for coaching led him to obtain his National D License as a Soccer Coach and has plans to continue his coaching education through the USA Soccer Coaching Program. The enjoyment Bob has working with his players, now consisting of both a boys and a girls team, is why he feels being a part of the Springfield School District will not only be an honor, but a passion. Springfield School District students are passionate about a wide variety of areas, with a strong desire to find a path to success. There are certainly no two alike, however, their individuality is what ignites the spark for Board Members, Teachers, and Faculty to stay on their toes and present the challenge they eagerly await to surpass.
