Born and raised in Springfield, Kevin Keenan is eager to give back to the school district that has afforded him so many great opportunities. Mr. Keenan enters his third year as part of the school board, and he hopes to leave a positive impact on the community like his family has over the years.
A member of the Springfield High School (SHS) graduating class of 1995, Mr. Keenan observed his family’s volunteer efforts throughout his childhood. His father coached football for more than 30 years, earning him a spot on the Volunteer Memorial Wall in Springfield. His mother, always active in the Springfield community, won the Springfield Spartan Award for her time spent with the Springfield Youth Club. Now, Mr. Keenan, his wife, who is a member of the SHS class of 1994, and his two children are following the same path of coaching and volunteering.
Mr. Keenan received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 2000 from Penn State University. He continued his education at Penn State when he obtained a M.B.A. with a concentration in Finance in 2010.
Before settling down in his professional life, Mr. Keenan was fortunate enough to play professional lacrosse until he was 34 years old. Though he understands that the Springfield community is known and respected for producing great athletes, Mr. Keenan values the importance of producing great people off the field. When he coaches kids in football, wrestling and lacrosse, he teaches students the importance of being mindful of their past and present. The message he imparts to the students is that they are the next link in the chain and that the chain needs every link to be strong. The students need to live up to the people who came before them, as well as be positive people on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.
When he isn’t busy coaching sports, Mr. Keenan can be found enjoying Thunderbird wings while watching his hometown Philadelphia Eagles play. While he enjoys all sports, people may not know that Mr. Keenan also loves to play and study chess.
Mr. Keenan is currently the Vice President of Project Development for JDC Energy Services. As a licensed Professional Engineer (PE), he works with teams that perform large retrofits the generate energy savings, including lighting, boilers, control systems, envelopes and a host of other technology.
Mr. Keenan, who is a member of the Facilities and Finance committees, is elated to represent the community that helped shaped him. He fondly remembers meeting many influential community members throughout his journey. Running for the School Board of Directors was a natural path to give back to the town and district that he is so proud of.
