Not all heroes wear capes. Or at least this is how the Springfield Literacy faculty and staff feel. The SLC teachers wore special t-shirts on Friday, February 9th that honored the Spingfield Fire Company for all the work they do to keep the Springfield community safe.
The idea for the Superman inspired t-shirts came in the days following the death of Lt. Matthew LeTourneau, an 11-year veteran of the Philadelphia Fire Department who tragically lost his life while battling a row home fire in the city on January 6th. Lt. LeTourneau was a familiar face in Springfield. The 42-year-old was not only a resident of the Springfield community, but he also participated in the Springfield School District's fire safety demonstrations where students have the opportunity to have a hands-on experience.
The Springfield School Districts extends its deepest thanks to the Springfield Fire Company for their fire protection and fire prevention of approximately 25,000 citizens in the 6.2 square mile area of Springfield Township.
