The Pennsylvania Music Education Association (PMEA) is a statewide nonprofit that consists of over 4,000 teachers and music industry members dedicated to improving the musical development of all Pennsylvanians. PMEA promotes and supports music education, as well as supporting music education in schools and communities. All Springfield School District music faculty are active members of PMEA and several hold leadership positions within PMEA.
PMEA consists of local districts and regions that hold yearly ensembles for the band, chorus, and orchestra. These ensembles are made up of students of their respective Districts or Regions. Students who try out for and make Districts are eligible to try out for Regions. Those that qualify for Regions are then eligible to try out for the All-State ensemble, which performs at the yearly PMEA Conference.
Students that attend Districts participate in a 3-day festival where they rehearse and perform a concert under a well-known conductor. Last year, three SHS students spent countless hours preparing for their audition. We are honored to say that these students earned a seat in the District 12 ensemble for 2020-2021. This is a notable achievement considering the competitiveness with the PMEA district and the fact that students navigated the audtion process virtually due to the COVID–19 pandemic.
Please join us in congratulating District 12 Band Members Tommy Eng, Emma Toledo, and alumni Matt Debany, and District 12 Orchestra Member Eliot Keener.
