Visual Arts
The Springfield School District has a rich tradition in the Visual Arts, which is celebrated with various events such as the SHS Celebration of the Arts, ETR’s Night of the Arts, and the Scenic Hills and Sabold Elementary Showcases.
There is pride in the rigor and breadth of the curriculum, and the resulting enthusiasm within the schools and the community. The district values the importance of art as a catalyst for creative thinking. Creativity requires a divergent thought process, followed by a synthesis of ideas that result in personal expression through a work of art. As stated in the PA Academic Standards for the Arts and Humanities, “The Arts … are interconnected through the inclusion of history, criticism, and aesthetics … Visual Arts Education is a spatial art form that satisfies the human need to respond to life experiences through images, structures and tactile works.”
