Plant Sale November 30th, 2011
Dear Parents,
The Ecology Center Committee is holding a holiday plant sale. This sale allows us to provide support for ecology center.
We have the opportunity to buy plants at wholesale prices and to offer them to you at lower than florist prices. We are offering this sale as a service to you, who normally buy holiday plants. This is NOT to be a door to door sale, only a service to families and friends.
The sale starts today and ends December 7, 2011. Please include your payment with your order. Checks can be made payable to SSD Elementary H&S Association.
Please note, if a color preference for the poinsettia is not selected, red will be chosen
for you.
Plants may be picked up in the cafeteria on: Wed., Dec. 14th from
3:45-6:30.
Thank you!

Plant pick-up reminder:
Exciting news for the ecology center! We have been approved to work with a rescue operation to place eastern box turtles. We had to be granted approval from the Fish and Boating Commission to house these turtles. Due to loss of habitat, and being removed from the wild as pets, the eastern box turtle is not allowed to be sold or removed from an area that it is found. The turtles that we will receive will have microchips so that they can be identified. Working with this rescue group also will provide a resource for water turtles as well.
The first duckling hatched on Friday, April 22nd. It is the only one that will hatch from the first clutch of eggs. The other eggs fell out of the nest. Mrs. Rizzio was able to get some great shots of the ecology center!
A total of 25 ducklings hatched in the ecology center from 3 different mallard families. At the time of this letter we have 17 ducklings. Mrs. Rizzio’s class has also been cleaning up the ecology center by weeding! They have been doing a fantastic job. Our box turtles are out and about enjoying the warm weather and their “food” pile. Shelly is roaming free and can usually be found on the patio by the library doors. Nibbles is enjoying the porch, but when the weather gets too warm, she will have to come back inside.
