Springfield Points of Pride

Both Sabold Elementary School and Scenic Hills Elementary School have been awarded the International Reading Association's Exemplary Reading Program Award in 2008 and 2009 respectively. Springfield is the only school district in Pennsylvania to have all of its elementary schools receive this prestigious award!

E. T. Richardson Middle School again ranked in the top schools in the state in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science competition. Fourteen students received First Place Awards at the State Meet - In competition with over 2,200 other students from throughout Pennsylvania! Additionally, two students won a Director's Award and an Astronomy Award.

Springfield High School had the largest student led fundraiser of any school in Pennsylvania. Over $110K was raised to fight childhood cancer via a Dance-a-thon modeled after Penn State's THON. Springfield High School has a Milken National Teacher of the year, a Reading Specialist. And, the Celebration of the Arts at SHS is nationally recognized for its excellence.

The Springfield School District is proud to be building a Literacy Center, the first new school constructed in Springfield in more than 50 years. This school will welcome all the Kindergarten and first grade children from Springfield and Morton in September of 2010. The building has won several architectural and environmental awards and will be the foundation of Springfield's "Literacy First" initiative – where every child leaves elementary school reading on grade level.
